Don’t call Los Angeles’s seminal vallenato band Very Be Careful a “world music” act. The musicians’ sound may be seeded in the coastal northeast of Colombia, where the music has been making pulses race and libidos rise since the 1950s – but what they play is raw and groove-oriented. Started out ten years ago by two Colombian-American brothers whose mom actually wrote some of the lyrics, Very Be Careful has played major festivals in Japan and Europe and the US. They also like to keep it small and sweaty with constant small club gigs.
